About Us
We are a small family Schipperke breeder based in Ada, Ok. We knew that the Schipperke was no ordinary dog breed when we set out to pick out our first puppy, Koga. She was born on a tug boat in Seattle and we would soon discover that her earliest experiences were true to the history and the namesake of her breed. The Schipperke won the nickname "Little Captain" as ratters on Belgian canal barges. It is said that the breed was developed in response to a 14th century decree by French nobility that only aristocrats could own large dogs. In their early history, Schipperkes would have spent their days as companions to those who, much like our own family, did not come from wealth or prosperity. As soon as we met our first beloved Schipperke, we knew right away that we had to become custodians of this unusual and brilliant underdog.
About Schipperkes
Schipperkes are born travelers. Full grown, they are just under the size limits for traveling in the cabins of planes. Size wise, they are on the upper end of what are considered to be small dog breeds. They are compact companions but they are also moderately active and require a lot of engagement. They are fantastic with children and have a deep capacity for compassion. They can be stubborn, but their intelligence is shocking at times. They learn best given patience, persistence and mutual respect. They are the type of dog that, without a mutually respectful friendship, they could easily end up owning you instead of the other way around!
